MUMBAI: Traditional brass lamps and the rich aroma of dhoop lend a mystical air to Shree Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Kastur Park in Borivli (W). “We use nearly 30 litres of oil every day to keep the lamps going through the night,” said Sanyog Raje, working president of the mandal.
“The diyas have a mesmerising effect on the devotees,” admitted actor Manasi Kulkarni who visited the Kasturba Park Ganpati on Saturday.
The impressive plaster of Paris replica of the Kedarnath shrine has a daily gets footfall of over 2,000.
The mandal sent a team of volunteers to Uttarakhand in June to study the shrine. “Our artists recreated the temple to its last detail,” said Raje.
Now in its 38th year, the mandal has come a long way. The annual collection was a meagre Rs 13,000 in 1986, today, it runs into several lakhs. The mandal has also bagged nearly 200 awards, said Raje.
