New Delhi: A technician working with Gurgaon’s Fortis Hospital, was beaten with iron rods by a man in an incident of road rage near Andheria Mor in south Delhi, after his car brushed against the accused’s vehicle on Thursday. The accused was caught by the locals and handed over to police. The incident took place on the night of September 8. The technician was admitted to Fortis Hospital in Vasant Kunj, and discharged on Monday.
Pradeep Chauhan (35), a dentist’s assistant, told police that on Thursday night, he was returning home in Sangam Vihar with his wife and two kids (aged 10 and 12), from his in-law’s house in Janakpuri, when he got stuck in a traffic jam near Qutub Minar.
Wading through the chaos, his car brushed against another car just ahead of his near Qutub Minar Metro Station.
Chauhan’s wife Anjana said the accused, Vineet Kumar, a hairdresser, stepped out and started thrashing Chauhan without even engaging in any argument. It was actually Kumar, who had suddenly braked in front of their car, that had led to their car bumping into his from behind, claimed Anjana.
Even as Chauhan tried to apologise and offer to pay for the damages, Kumar pulled out an iron rod from his car and hit Chauhan on the head 2-3 times, she continued. “Chauhan fell unconscious and was bleeding profusely, but Kumar continued to kick him,” she added.
“I went and pleaded with Kumar’s wife to stop him, but he refused to listen to her as well. In the meantime, a crowd had gathered around the men, who caught Kumar and called the police,” said Anjana.
Mehrauli police rushed to arrest Kumar from the scene. A case was registered under sections of attempt to murder and criminal intimidation. Police have also registered a case of negligent driving against Chauhan.
