Amritsar, September 12

In yet another incident, a shopkeeper was robbed of his scooter by unidentified armed persons in the posh Basant Avenue area here late last evening when he was returning home.

The accused suspected that the trader might have kept cash in the dickey of the scooter. But that was not the case.

The victim, Brij Mohan (50), runs a seed shop in the Dhab Wasti Ram area in the walled city. The area is famous for wholesale selling of grocery items.

He told the Majitha road police that he was returning home on his Activa scooter (bearing registration No. PB 02 CF 3252) when three armed persons came on a motorcycle and attacked him with sharp weapons. Following this, he fell down and sustained injuries on his head and arms. The accused fled away with his scooter.

The Civil Lines police have registered a case under Sections 394 and 34 of the IPC in this regard. Jatinder Singh, investigating officer, said though the police managed to get the CCTV grab of the incident, but it failed to help the police due to darkness and its blur vision.

He said a case under Sections 394 and 34, IPC, had been registered while further probe is underway.

The recent trend of robbery had put lives of victims in danger. Earlier, unscrupulous elements used to snatch the belongings of the residents or threaten them to rob. Now, they first attack and hurt them and take away their belongings.

The victims sometimes sustain grievous injuries as they fall from running vehicles.

Traders and shopkeepers using scooters to commute from their business establishments to residences during late night hours have become targets of the miscreants. Though the recent past has witnessed a surge in such instances, the police authorities have failed to check the same.
