£1.5m plan to prevent landslips on Maerdy mountain road

A mountain road in Rhondda Cynon Taf will be shut in order for £1.5m of repairs to take place following two landslides.
Maerdy mountain road will be resurfaced, a new drainage system will be created and stone walls repaired.
The landslides followed heavy rain in December 2015 and January 2016.
Traffic management has been in place since then to stabilise the road, which provides access from Rhondda Fach to the Heads of the Valleys road.
The Rhondda Cynon Taf council scheme, which is being funded by the Welsh Government, will begin next summer and the road will be fully closed for a period during the works.
Council leader Andrew Morgan said it was a priority the road is repaired with "as little disruption as possible".
