Mercedes SL Set To Return To Its Roots With Some Help From AMG
German carmaker Mercedes-Benz unveiled the facelifted version of the current generation of SL-Class roadster in November 2015.
Now, Mercedes is hard at work developing the eight-generation of the SL and a test mule for the new car has already started testing.
According to Autocar, the new SL will havea more sporting character than the existing model.
To ensure that the SL is a vastly different proposition to today's model, development of the new two-seat luxury roadster was recently handed over to the resident power fanatics at AMG.

The new car will also ditch the folding aluminium roof for a a multi-layer fabric one. This will make the new car, the first SL since 2002 (when the production of the fifth-gen SL stopped) to sport a favric roof.
The new Sl will sport numerous engines under the hood including the 3.0-litre turbocharged straight-six engine which is expected to be revealed soon and will be present in different states of tune.
Another engine that will be present in multiple tuning states will be AMG's own 4.0-litre twin turbo V8 from the MAG GT.
The 6-litre V12 for the range-topping SL 65 AMG is also expected to make the cut when the car is finally revealed by Mercedes.
