Railway Platform, a Konkani play, to be staged on Wednesday

MANGALURU: Railway Platform , a Konkani play produced by Sadhana Balaga is all set to be staged for the first time at the Town Hall on Wednesday. Result of a 45-day Konkani drama training camp conducted at Nalanda English Medium School on V T Road from August 1, the 105-minute drama features 28 artistes in the age-group of 13 to 75 years. Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy and Vishwa Konkani Kendra have assisted Sadhana Balaga in this theatre venture.
The camp strives to give a stage to the budding artistes and preliminary tips on acting, stage setting, make-up, music, lighting and sound. Prasanna H S, Sathish P B from Neenasam, and Jagan Pawar Bekal, established names in stage and drama have lent their expertise to this venture as resource persons, says U Prakash Shenoy, the director, story and dialogue writer of the drama.
Shakuntala R Kini, All India Radio artiste (retired) has penned the lyrics for the music, and Bhavana Prakash Shenoy has given the musical notes to her lyrics. V S Gurumurthy has lent his assistance for music and musical instruments that figures in the drama.
State awardee Koni Sheshagiri Nayak has handled the task of light and sound design and stage management. Ullal Raghavendra Kini is in-charge of organization and production of the drama, Prakash Shenoy said.
Incidentally, Prakash Shenoy, an employee with Mescom has shown his forte in drama with hit children's drama in Konkani - namely Kundya Kurkul , Pattholi Ruk , Navarangi Phool , Vindra Peel , and Udapi Mankad .
These dramas have been staged not just in Karnataka but even in other states such as Kerala and Gujarat, as well as at events of Konkani communities there, Prakash said. Four of these dramas have been telecast on Doordarshan Chandana as well.
