Youth drowns during idol immersion

KANPUR: Akshay Kumar (18) drowned in Kali Nadi in Farrukhabad district on Sunday. The incident took place while he was taking part in the immersion ceremony of Lord Ganesha in the river.
Akshay, a resident of Ram Darbar at Purani Chowki in Etah, went to the river, which flows through the neighbouring Farrukhabad district, with his friends on Sunday evening. During immersion, he accidentally slipped into the deep waters and disappeared.
His friends raised an alarm. A search operation was launched by the police. The body could not be fished out. The police said that there are no chances of his survival. "Search operation are continuing with the help of local divers and PAC personnel," a police officer said. tnn
