SAMJI RULES NYALI: Coast golfer swings to glory in September Medal showdown

Veteran Coast lady golfer Saida Samji displayed her skills at the par 71 Nyali Golf and Country Club in Mombasa at the weekend by posting an excellent 69 nett to win the 2016 September Medal.

The home golfer (pictured), who was playing off handicap 20 and is the mother of Canadian-based lady golfer Fareen Samji, levelled six level pars despite playing nine bogey shots and double bogey shots on the rest of both nine holes to claim the medal sponsored by Johnnie Walker.

“This year has been bad to me, but today my putting and swings were good,” said Samji.

Club mate Pia Swatton, playing off handicap 24, was the Division Two winner on 71 nett.

Johnnie Walker sponsored the day-long 18 hole-tournament that attracted 165 golfers from the home club, Mombasa, Leisure, Vipingo, Malindi and guests of the sponsors who had valid handicaps.

Handicap 10 Kim Lanxe from Nyali was the Division One winner of the Mug on 67 nett, while Neil Alderrney on 72 nett won the Division Two and Anthony Getambu on 75 nett won the Division Three category.

At the Karen Course, Vet’s handicap 10 Godwin Karuga posted 41 points to win the Kenya Forest Services event on Saturday.

Limuru’s handicap 11 Solomon Irimu on 38 points was the men winner and Railway’s handicap 21 Jedida Kubo posted 40 points to claim the Lady winner title, beating Karen’s Irene Auma to second slot by a point difference.

Thika’s handicap 29 Annastasia Muasya was the staff winner on 30 points.

The Engineers’ event at the Thika Sports Club course was won by Dr. John Njoroge on 43 points. James Wangai won the men winner slot. He had a count back score of 37 points after tying on the same points with third-placed David Matano.

S.M Patel on 37 was the Lady winner, while Betty Mutua on 36 points was second.

At the Muthaiga course, Jacob Gathecha scored 37 points to win the Advatech event, while Kunal Patel was the men winner on 35 points.

Susan Kanyora, on 34 points was the lady winner, while F.Wagura on 36 points was the guest winner. Hashil Raghwani, who had 40 points, was the junior winner.
