Varanasi: A gangster lodged in Azamgarh jail has issued life threats to an independent MLC from Ghazipur Vishal Singh Chanchal over phone. Chanchal lodged a complaint with Varanasi police and also produced the audio clip of the conversation. An FIR was lodged with Badagaon police on Saturday.
Chanchal said that he received a call on his mobile phone on Friday afternoon. The caller, who disclosed his identity as Sanjay Yadav, claimed that he had got the sale of tender forms for the contract of constructing concrete cement roads in Lohia villages of Chandauli closed.
Sanjay, who is presently lodged at Azamgarh jail, expressed anger against Chanchal, mentioning that some of the MLC's supporters purchased the tender forms despite closure of sale. Sanjay instructed the MLC to make sure that his supporters return those forms and avoid taking part in the tender process.
Chanchal said that when he asked whereabouts of Sanjay and reason for giving such instructions to him, the latter threatened him to be ready for the same treatment which was given to former MLA Sarvesh Singh Sippu, who was murdered a few years back.
Chanchal said that he had recorded this conversation and contacted IG SK Bhagat on Friday evening. The IG ordered SSP Varanasi Akash Kulhary to probe into the matter.
Kulhary said on Saturday that he had gone through the audio clip given by Chanchal and found that following exchange of heated words between the MLC and Sanjay, the latter issued threats. Badagaon police lodged an FIR against Sanjay under section 506 of IPC while call detail records of the number used by Sanjay to call Chanchal had also been sought by the police.
Sanjay, who hails from Ghazipur, took the command of his gang after the killing of his uncle Doodhnath Yadav in an encounter with police many years back. Later, due to his involvement in cases of murder, loot and other criminal cases, police announced a cash reward of Rs 50,000 on Sanjay's head. Five years back, he was arrested and lodged at Azamgarh jail. However, proving his dominance in local politics, Sanjay emerged victorious in block chief election from Jahanaganj block of Azamgarh. Police are also trying to know whether he used mobile phone inside the jail to call Chanchal or made the call while staying outside the jail.
