Ludhiana: An awareness seminar on goods and services tax (GST) was organised by Chamber of Industrial and Commercial Undertakings (CICU) on Saturday at its Focal point office. The experts including advocate R K Hasija and former commissioner, central excise & service tax S J Singh addressed the businessmen and gave their view on the subject and responded to their queries.

Avtar Singh, president and Upkar Singh Ahuja, general secretary of the association, said there is widespread consensus in economic and business circles that implementation of the GST would be transformative for the Indian economy in its pursuit of rapid growth. The fact is that the planned GST would replace a whole host of existing taxes, duties, customs, excises, and surcharges, all of which vary from State to State, which will not only raise revenue for the government, but also reduce costs for businesses.
More than 250 participants attended the seminar. Others who attended the programme included Suresh Chaudhary, S M Mehta, Jaspal Singh Shahpuri, Yashpal Gosain, Jaspal Singh Sall, Surinder Singh, Sham Lal Gupta, Jatinder Singh Manchanda, M.S Lamba, Jaswinder Singh Birdi, Jagtar Singh, Interjit Nagpal, Rajat Sood, Phuman Singh, S.B Singh, Rajnish Bansal, Parveen Chadha, Ravinder Saini and others.
Meanwhile, another seminar on GST was organised at Guru Nank Dev Bhawan jointly by Punjab Tax Bar Association (PTBA), District Tax Bar Association (DTBA-sales tax) and Taxation Bar Association.
