Ludhiana:The Oswal Foundation, run by the
Nahar Group of Companies, has come forward to help a special school for visually impaired children at
Jamalpur, which has been upgraded from Class X to XII by the
Punjab government.
In February, TOI had highlighted how the dilapidated infrastructure at
Braille Bhawan.
Now, the Oswal Foundation has pledged to construct an ultra-modern building for the school at a cost of around Rs 1 crore.
The foundation would construct this building which would house classrooms, a library, music room, computer room, office, toilets and other facilities. The building will also have different kinds of sensors on walls that would help students in finding their way. The toilets in this building would be 'e-toilets' and would be cleaned automatically.
The foundation of the school building was laid by deputy commissioner
Ravi Bhagat and chairman of the Nahar Group and Oswal Foundation, Jawahar Lal Oswal on Saturday.
Deputy commissioner Ravi Bhagat acknowledged the fact that that administration initiated the move to revamp Braille Bhawan only after TOI highlighted the issue.
Addressing the function, Bhagat thanked Oswal Foundation for the noble gesture which would benefit a large number of visually impaired children. On the occasion, Bhagat urged other corporate houses to come forward for such causes under their corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives.
Speaking on the occasion, Oswal thanked the district administration for letting him work for the betterment of this school and also assured that in future also, the Oswal foundation would assist the district administration for such social causes.
District social security officer Inderpreet Kaur informed that the building would be ready before the start of next academic session and classes of Class XI and XII would be conducted here. Soon the process of recruitment of teachers will also be started.
