PUNE: The Pune Municipal Corporation has installed 40 booths at four ghats in the city to facilitate immersion of Ganapati idols from the fifth day onwards of the Ganeshotsav.
A statement issued by the civic body on Saturday said thousands of household Ganapati idols are immersed on the fifth, seventh and 11th day of the festival.
"Citizens have to place idols on the riverbed while performing the final aarti before immersion.
If it rains, people get worried about idols getting wet. To avoid these problems and ensure that a clean and neat space is available for the final aarti, the civic body decided to install 40 immersion booths along the ghats," the statement said.
The booths installed through PMC (Pune Municipal Corporation) Care initiative are at Amruteshwar ghat, S M Joshi bridge ghat, Bhide bridge and Aundh ghat. Hundreds of devotees used these booths on Saturday - the fifth day of Ganeshotsav. The booths have been set up in association with some corporate houses.
