Act outside party, get sidelined, warns BSY

BJP state president B S Yeddyurappa has warned party functionaries that they would lose prominence in the party if they carry out activities outside the party.

He was addressing functionaries of the OBC Morcha of the party in Bengaluru on Saturday.

His directive serves as a warning to those planning to attend a convention of Hinda (Kannada acronym for OBCs and Dalits) organised by Sangolli Rayanna Brigade supported by BJP leader K S Eshwarappa, at Haveri on October 1.

Eshwarappa has associated himself with the Brigade to consolidate the support of Dalits and OBCs and thus try to secure his position in the party.

He has defied Yeddyurappa’s diktat that such mobilisation should be done within the party forum.

Party sources said Yeddyurappa, without naming the Brigade, said any functionary who attends non-party conventions, will be sidelined in the BJP.

Mammoth convention

Earlier, speaking at the inaugural of the executive committee meeting of the Morcha, Yeddyurappa said the BJP will organise a mammoth convention of OBCs in Bengaluru on November 27.

“The convention should break all records with regard to attendance. We should mobilise three lakh people to attend the convention,” Yeddyurappa said.

Morcha president B J Puttaswamy said OBCs form 34% of the voters in the state and emerge as the deciding factor in elections in 165 of the 224 Assembly constituencies in the state.
