Union minister Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti today accused Telangana government of “not recognising” the sacrifice made by scores of people
against erstwhile Nizam rule and during Telangana liberation movement.

“The sacrifice made by those against the Nizam rule and in liberalising Telangana are not being recognised,” the MoS for Food Processing Industries said.

The minister was speaking on the occasion of the 31st death anniversary of revolutionary figure Chityala Ailamma who revolted against feudal landlord to save her land during Telangana liberation movement against the feudal landlords of the region between 1946 and 1951.

On the occasion, she appealed to gathering to once again “end the family rule in Telangana”, in an apparent reference to Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) headed by Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao.

BJP state unit president K Laxman accused TRS of joining hands with Asaduddin Owaisi-led MIM party, which, he said, “represents Nizam rulers and is shying away from conducting official celebrations commemorating the sacrifices of many people.”

Festive offer

Laxman said Rao was reneging on his promise of celebrating Telangana Liberation Day after coming to power “for the sake of vote bank politics”.

“To let the future generations know about people like Ailamma and Komuram Bheem, their life stories should be included in text books,” he demanded.

BJP has been demanding that Telangana government should officially celebrate Telangana Liberation Day on September 17 — the day Hyderabad State merged with the Indian Union.
