Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar recently named Olympic bronze medallist
Sakshi Malik as the state’s
brand ambassador for the
Beti Bachao,
Beti Padhao programme. Last year in July, in an event in Gurgaon, the state government had named
Parineeti Chopra, who was born in Haryana’s Ambala district, the brand ambassador of the same initiative.

Parineeti Chopra appointed the brand ambassador of the 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao: Call to Action' campaignCurious if Sakshi has replaced Parineeti, we asked Women and Child Development director
Renu Phulia about the same, and she informed us that an official agreement is yet to be signed with Parineeti.
“The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is still to be signed,” she said. On asked why it hasn’t been signed a whole year after Parineeti being announced as an ambassador, she said, “I don’t know why it hasn’t been done earlier. I have joined recently and am taking the necessary steps.” About whether Sakshi will replace Parineeti now, Phulia said, “We can have several brand ambassadors for one initiative. It is not essential to replace one with another.” Parineeti’s appointment had stirred a controversy after Harayana’s health and sports minister Anil Vij expressed his displeasure at not being consulted before the announcement.
We also contacted Parineeti’s reps, but they refused to divulge any information about the progress of the MoU. When asked to clarify if Parineeti can be called the brand ambassador for the campaign, the team responded, “We would have to consult the Haryana Government before making any statements.” The Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao campaign was launched by the PM from Panipat in January last year.
