NWC member Sushma Sahu says she’s scared to visit UP
AGRA: Expressing concern over the prevailing law and order situation in UP, National Women Commission member, Sushma Sahu, has said that even she is scared to visit the state.
While visiting the residence of 15-year old recipient of UP’s Rani Laxmibai Bravery Award, Nazia, who recently alleged harassment at the hands of some punters operating in Mantola area of Agra, Sahu said, “no woman or girl is safe in UP”.
She said the state government had totally failed on the law and order front and lawlessness prevailed in UP.
Assuring Nazia her “wholehearted support”, Sahu gave a dressing down to Station Officer, Mantola, Shiv Kumar Sharma, who claimed that they had verified the young girl’s complaint about punters operating near her residence and found no evidence to support it. An angry Sahu told the SO that she wouald “strip him of his uniform”, if even three people from the locality support Nazia’s claim.
Sahu lost her temper when the SO claimed that certain Hindu organisations had come out in support of the four people who had been accused by Nazia of operating “satta” near her house. “Why are you trying to give a communal colour to the incident? It’s a criminal complaint investigate it and take action without getting religion of the complainant or the accused in it”, she said.
Talking to TOI Nazia said Sahu had told her to contact the Commission for any help. She said following her Wednesday’s tweet to the Chief Minister seeking help, local administration had got “active” and assured her of thorough investigations.
Nazia, who was conferred the bravery award for foiling the abduction of a 6-year old Hindu girl in August last had on Tuesday accused the local police of doing nothing on her complaint about the activities of some punters near her residence. She had alleged that the punters had been threatening her and her.
