MIM shows concern over cattle traders' harassment
HYDERABAD: A panel of Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen legislators led by party general secretary Syed Ahmed Pasha Quadri, met Telangana director general of police (DGP) Anurag Sharma and apprised him of what they described as an "arbitrary seizure" of oxen and buffaloes even as they accused cops of acting in a high-handed manner, while dealing with those who transport cattle.
In a representation submitted to the DGP, the legislators said that they received several complaints from cattle transporters from various parts of the state including Ranga Reddy, Nalgonda, Mahbubnagar and Warrangal, among other places of "large scale harassment".

"We would like to bring to your kind notice that an alarming situation has been created by the police, municipal, revenue and animal husbandry officials in Hyderabad, Cyberabad and other places in the entire Telangana region as these officials are harassing the persons trading in or transporting cattle (oxen and buffaloes) on the eve of Bakrid this time," an excerpt from the representation reads.
The legislators also informed Sharma that sacrificing sick and old emaciated animals is not permitted and that sacrificing "unfit" or "condemned" animals is out of the question. They also said that officials have been imposing large fines and sending the confiscated oxen and buffaloes to gaushalas, stating that they would be released after Bakrid.
