Former Braves outfielder Hector Olivera was sentenced to 90 days in prison for misdemeanor domestic assault on Thursday, according to A.J. Perez of USA Today. Court records show the judge suspended 80 days of Olivera's sentence, he will only spend 10 days in prison initially.

Olivera was arrested at the team hotel in Virginia back in April after his girlfriend said he assaulted her. He was charged with misdemeanor assault and battery. MLB immediately placed Olivera on administrative leave under the league's new domestic violence policy, and he was later suspended 82 games.

While suspended, the Braves traded Olivera to the Padres for Matt Kemp, and San Diego immediately designated him for assignment. Atlanta wanted to get rid of Olivera and the Padres were able to unload some salary despite trading for a player who will presumably never play for them.

Olivera, 31, is currently a free agent. He signed a six-year, $62.5 million contract with the Dodgers early last year, then was traded to the Braves in the Alex Wood deal last July. Olivera has hit .245 in 30 career big league games, all with Atlanta.
