ALMORA: In Uttarakhand, even the gods are tech-savvy. The 330-year-old Gairar Golu Devta temple committee in Almora, which celebrated the local deity’s ‘birthday’ on Thursday, has released a revamped website that allows devotees to send their queries and problems to the divine being. A mobile version of the website was also launched.
The desktop version of the website had been receiving many hits and up to 500 letters addressed to the deity every month, many of which were through emails.
This prompted the temple committee to revamp the website and make it more user-friendly, said M S Pilkhwal, who redesigned the website.
“Devotees can now send their queries and wishes online to the deity through a form on the website. They can also scan and upload their petitions on stamp papers. The committee will print them and hang the letters in the temple,” added Pilkhwal.
“In the recent past, many people migrated from Kumaon to other places in the country and abroad. We receive letters from Delhi, West Bengal, Maharashtra and even countries like the US and Australia,” said D S Pilkhwal, the patron of the temple.
Gairar Golu Devta is believed to have been born in Patiya village in Almora and is considered the younger brother of Golu Devta, the deity from Champawat, who has a temple in Chitai, Almora.
