BSF denies West Bengal government's allegation that it's training a Cooch Behar separatist party's 'sena'

BSF denies West Bengal government's allegation that it's training a Cooch Behar separatist party's 'sena'
According to the order, half of a BSF battalion posted in a hard area will move out in a periodic manner to peace areas.
The West Bengal government has accused the Border Security Force (BSF) in the state's Cooch Behar district of training the 'sena'of a local party demanding a separate Cooch Behar State. The BSF has denied the allegations.
The Greater Cooch Behar People's Party (GCBPP) has allegedly been training armed forces - called the Narayani Sena - in its founder Ananta Roy's palace.
State government officials have said that they will stay vigilant, and take action if necessary.
"The administration is ready to take measures in case of any unrest. We are very much updated about the affairs going on in and outside the property," said District Magistrate Mr. P. Ulaganathan.
Cooch Behar Police Superintendent Sunil Yadav said his department was keeping a watch on the palace, and that the police regularly patrolled and conducted checks in the area.
'Maharaja' Ananta Roy and the GCBPP
Ananta Roy, the founder of the GCBPP, is something of a regal figure. In his palace, which is modelled on the Royal Palace of Cooch Behar, he actually sits on a throne, and holds court with a royal entourage, all of whose members follow a dress code. Roy's followers even call him 'Maharaja.'
Roy's party has been demanding a separate state of Cooch Behar for decades. His ideal state would extend from River Karatowa in West Bengal to Kamakshya Temple in Assam.
"Our organisation consists of Greater Cooch Behar movement. The Govt of India has duped the people of Cooch Behar by giving them the status of a district instead of an independent state. This house has been built by and for the Party members and supporters of GCBPP," Roy said.
