On Saturday, Sept. 17 and Sunday, Sept. 18, 2016, The Outcast Theater on Whidbey Island, WA, Ned Farley, Artistic Director, will present two off-book staged readings of a new, full-length musical comedy BOLLYWOOD AND VINE by Edward Jordon (Book), Daniel Neiden (Music), and June Rachelson-Ospa (Lyrics). Musical arrangements and supervision by Charles Czarnecki; and musical preparation by Eileen Soskin. BOLLYWOOD AND VINE is a musical re-imagining of Edward Jordon's cult film of the same title.

Set in Hollywood, Bhuvan Bannerji (Nikhil Saboo), an Indian tour bus driver and wannabe screenwriter, gets far more than he bargained for when he writes a comeback vehicle for his idol, former movie scream queen Delilah Leigh (K. Sandy O'Brien) who lives with her son, Devin (DJ Bucciarelli), and doesn't seem to have "aged" in the past 25 years. Her secret lies at the intersection of BOLLYWOOD AND VINE. Rounding out the cast will be Jennifer Bondelid, Ned Farley, Gabe Harschman, Gail Liston, and Jaz Zepatos.

Jordon shares his inspiration for the musical: "A few years ago, I attended a film festival where a veteran actress from Hollywood's Golden Age Of Musicals was being given a career achievement award. At one of the parties preceding the presentation, I overheard a group of aspiring filmmakers commenting on how ancient the actress looked and how her body of work amounted to little more than fluff." Jordon continues, "As I chatted face-to-face with the actress - gushed, actually - I saw what I chose to see; the same talented, intelligent and beautiful woman I fell in love with on the screen when I was just a kid. To this day, I wonder if the actress also overheard the aspiring filmmakers. I hope not. If she did, BOLLYWOOD AND VINE is a personal career achievement award to her from me, Daniel, and June presented in the language she loved: song, dance and unapologetic 'fluff.'"

The presentations are directed by Neiden, who describes BOLLYWOOD AND VINE's message as "a pointed expression of perseverance; following your heart in the face of your last chance at love; all within Edward's zany world of a drunk zombie next door; an inept detective; madcap gender mysteries, and the meanest public access TV show in recent memory."
