Admn invokes CCA against Mokama MLA

Patna: The Patna district administration has invoked the Crime Control Act (CCA) to ensure Mokama MLA Anant Singh does not come out of the slammer even after he gets bail in all the criminal cases pending against him. For, it feared his release could cause law and order problem.
The MLA was arrested on June 24 last year from his official residence at Mall Road in Patna by a police team led by the then Patna SSP, Vikas Vaibhav, in connection with the kidnapping of a Bihta contractor.

Patna SSP Manu Maharaaj told TOI on Wednesday Singh was granted bail by the Patna high court in at least four cases recently. He could not be released immediately because there was one more case in which he was yet to get bail, he said and added this was why he recommended to the DM to invoke CCA against the tainted MLA.
Patna DM Sanjay Kumar Agarwal said he issued orders to impose CCA on Singh on September 5, which meant he would remain behind bars for a year even if he was granted bail in all the criminal cases pending against him.The district administration's CCA order against the MLA has been sent to the state home department. "An advisory board consisting of two retired judges and one sitting judge of the Patna high court will take the final call on it after the home department gives its approval," the DM said, adding the board would also hear the MLA before taking the decision.
"Even while in jail, Singh allegedly threatened Barh ASP Manoj Tiwary. He recently also allegedly threatened Raju Singh, a complainant against him in one of the cases," a senior police officer said and added the MLA, as it is, was involved in several other cases of serious offences.Given the antecedents of the jailed MLA, the DM said, he could become a potential threat to the public life and the law and order situation in the district if he came out of the jail.
