Baar Baar Dekho vs Freaky Ali: Censors object to bra scene in Sidharth Malhotra film; but retain 'chaddi' scene in Nawazuddin Siddiqui starrer!

The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has always been in news for demanding unusual cuts in films which certifying them. Recently, the censor board asked the Baar Baar Dekho team to do away with a bra scene as a reference of Savita Bhabi from the film before giving it U/A certificate. This move attracted a lot of flak from social media but CBFC chief Pahlaj Nihlani is unaffected with all the negativity around him. This time, the censor board is back in news and for another amusing reason. While the CBFC team found the bra scene in Baar Baar Dekho vulgar, they gave a green signal to the Freaky Ali team even with a Chaddi scene.  It’s quite strange that the board found a woman lingerie scene vulgar and objectionable and has given its nod to the male undergarment so easily. In a scene in Freaky Ali, Nawazuddin Siddiqui is seen selling a male undergarment on the streets and the censor board didn’t find anything obscene in it. In fact, they granted the movie a certification without asking to retouch or cut that particular scene from the movie. But the censor board’s latest move is a clear indication that they have varied preferences towards different films. The CBFC is openly giving out hints that they carry a partial approach while certifying the films. A source close to the story was quoted by DNA saying that CBFC is giving out mixed signals regarding their approach towards film certification. And their selective disapproval of innerwear scenes is a clear testimony of the same. The source was also quoted saying, “Are they saying it’s okay to have men’s innerwear on display, but not women’s? If that is the case then why has a bra shot been allowed in the new Jackie Chan starrer Skiptrace? Are we to believe that female lingerie can be shown in international films and not in Indian films? Baffling, to say the least.” (ALSO READ: Salman Khan Vs Katrina Kaif: When former lovers turned foes!)

Anurag Srivastav, CEO, Central Board of Film Certification, in his statement with PTI confirmed the reports of deleting Bra scene and Savita Bhabhi reference from Baar Baar Dekho and considered it to be a part of the certification process. He also said that, “We have suggested three-four cuts for this film (Baar Baar Dekho). We cant reveal what cuts and objections we have raised. Any film that violates the guidelines are given cuts. Its normal.” (ALSO READ: Bigg Boss 9 contestant Priya Malik condemns Baar Baar Dekho’s ‘bra’ cut with her braless picture!)

Freaky Ali receives a U/A certificate which means it is accessible to children accompanied by adults. The film has been ordered no cuts as well. The Nawazuddin Siddiqui starrer, which hits the theatres this weekend, clashes with Sidharth-Katrina’s Baar Baar Dekho at the box office. The Sohail Khan movie will compete against Karan Johar’s film and it would be interesting to see who comes out victorious.
