A former Victorian police officer who admitted trafficking the drug ice is expected to give evidence against other members of an alleged crime syndicate.

David Cameron Lister, 37, appeared in the Melbourne Magistrates' Court on Wednesday where he pleaded guilty to six charges, including trafficking methamphetamine, cultivating cannabis and professional misconduct.

Two other charges against the former senior constable were dropped, including allegations that he trafficked a commercial quantity of methamphetamine.

The court previously heard that Lister was arrested at Townsville airport in April caught with half a kilogram of ice in a backpack.

The court heard that Lister would subsequently give evidence against three co-accused as part of his plea.

Lister admitted to trafficking the ice between January 6 and April 3 this year.

He also admitted to growing and cultivating cannabis plants at a Greenvale address, as well as drug possession, including ecstasy, LSD, heroin, methamphetamine, amphetamine and anabolic steroids.

He pleaded guilty to charges of possessing between $130,000-$140,000 in proceeds of crime in January.

In committing misconduct in his job as a police officer, Lister accepted that he accessed or distributed "law enforcement database material without reasonable excuse or justification".

Lister resigned from the force in January.

Eight members of the crime syndicate in Melbourne's west have been charged with various gun and drug charges after police made arrests earlier this year.

The suspected syndicate leader, 32-year-old Essendon man Jarrod Hennig, was charged with trafficking a commercial quantity of drugs.

A plea hearing will be held in the County Court on November 23.
