J C Daniel award for K G George

The award carries a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh and a citation.

Thiruvananthapuram: Filmmaker K.G. George, renowned for cult classics like Yavanika, Panchavadi Palam and Adaminte Variyellu, has been chosen for the J C Daniel Award for the year 2015. He is the 23rd recipient of the award, the state’s highest honour for film personalities. The award carries a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh and a citation. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will give away the award to the master director at a function to be held in Palakkad on October 15.

George has won nine state awards and also a national award for the best Malayalam film for his debut feature Swapnadanam (1975). The 70-year-old filmmaker's other major works include Kolangal, Mela (in which Mammotty debuted), Ulkkadal, Lekhayude Maranam Oru Flashback, Irakal, and Mattoral. Elavankode Desam, which was released in 1998, was his last film. He has made a total of 19 films.
