The Punjab and Haryana High Court Tuesday quashed an FIR against a Ludhiana resident in 2014 for an “act” intended to outrage religious feelings of followers of the Sirsa-based Dera Sacha Sauda head Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh.
Justice Ajay Tewari allowed the petition filed by Ludhiana resident Harmeet Singh seeking quashing of the FIR registered at police station Sarabha Nagar, Ludhiana, on the complaint of Kuldeep Singh of Naveen Nagar, Ludhiana.
After the release of Dera head’s film MSG: The Messenger, the petitioner commented that Dera head should have been a wrestler than a film actor. On this, Kuldeep accused the petitioner of posting morphed pictures of Dera head and using derogatory language.
While allowing petition, Justice Tewari observed once a person is a performer, he or she should be ready for criticism and this cannot be said to have hurt anyone’s feelings. However, detailed court judgment is awaited.
