Khattar push to KMP e-way, 400-day target set for Kundli-Manesar stretch

GURGAON: Work on the final phase of Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) expressway, the 83km long Kundli to Manesar stretch, started last week. The work began after the state government, represented by Haryana State Industry and Infrastructure Corporation (HSIDC), cleared its differences with previous concessionaire M/S KMP Expressway Limited. Once finished, the 83km long stretch will connect NCR, Sonipat, Jhajjar, Gurgaon, Mewat and Palwal districts.

During his visit to Gurgaon on Monday, Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar said, “The work for the Kundli to Manesar stretch started from September 1 and we will ensure that it is completed within 400 days of its launch, as promised.”
Officials working on the project informed that even though the official time for completion of the project was much more, they have be given a mandate to complete it within 400 days of its start.
The work on the expressway started in 2006 and was allotted to the concessionaire M/S KMP Expressway Limited with a completion date of July 2009. However, as it failed to deliver the project in time, the agreement was cancelled on an order by the Supreme Court in 2014. The project was then slated to be ready by January this year, which again missed the deadline.
The first phase, connecting Manesar to Palwal, was inaugurated by transport minister Nitin Gadkari in April this year.
The KMP project gained momentum after a sub-committee headed by the chief minister approved the second phase of the expressway in July, 2015. The expressway when completed would cross several districts including Sonipat, Jhajjar, Gurgaon, Mewat and Palwal.
Meanwhile, Essel Infra Limited has been appointed as the new concessionaire. The expressway would not just create a high speed connect between northern Haryana and Southern districts including Gurgaon, Faridabad and Palwal, but also decongest the national capital territory.
