Sat Bisla: MUSEXPO Europe will bring you tomorrow's music biz today

The upcoming MUSEXPO Europe conference will serve as an invaluable opportunity for “anybody looking to better understand the international business of music”, according to MUSEXPO and A&R Worldwide president and founder Sat Bisla.

Music Week has partnered with A&R Worldwide to host MUSEXPO Europe, which takes place at London’s Millennium Hotel from September 18-20.

The event will see a raft of industry leaders converge under one roof for two days of networking and discussion of the most crucial issues facing the industry. It will also shine a spotlight on emerging global markets.

“We live in a marketplace that is constantly evolving and adapting to new platforms,” Bisla told Music Week. “The goal is to help people understand and navigate not only today’s business, but what’s going to happen tomorrow.

Not just for Europe, but for the global market. With MUSEXPO Europe we want to bring together minds that are helping to shape the future.”

Among the confirmed speakers are BBC Radio 1 controller Ben Cooper, PRS For Music CEO Robert Ashcroft, Virgin EMI president Ted Cockle and president of Universal Music UK’s Globe division Marc Robinson.

Covering everything from the evolution of the live music business to the role of artist managers, the conference encompasses a plethora of subjects, although for Bisla, Cooper’s insights will be of key interest.

“Radio has always been a passion of mine, so looking at how it is adapting to the ecosystem we live in is going to be interesting.

While we can think of many technologies that have come and gone, I can’t think of one radio station on the FM dial that has gone dark. Rather, we’ve seen FM radio and other forms of radio evolve and adapt.”

Another central feature is the new European Executive of the Year Award, which will be presented to Island Records president Darcus Beese at the closing gala dinner. And, says Bisla, Beese is a particularly worthy winner.

“He evokes what A&R Worldwide is all about – helping develop talent. He’s had a great track record, starting as an intern and working his way up the ladder to where he is today.”

The latest confirmed names for MUSEXPO Europe include Ticketmaster UK MD Andrew Parsons, Music For Nations label head Julie Weir, Live Nation UK’s president of touring international Phil Bowdery, UTA London office VP Natasha Bent and Atlantic Records UK A&R director Alec Boateng.
