A slew of events were organised across various city schools and colleges to mark Teachers' Day, the birth anniversary of former President Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan.

ALLAHABAD: A slew of events were organised across various city schools and colleges to mark Teachers' Day, the birth anniversary of former President Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan.
At Kendriya Vidyalayas, students of class XII inacted the role of their favourite teacher. Principal of KV Old, Cantt, Shalini Dikshit, garlanded the picture of Radhakrishnan and asked the students to follow the path shown by our leaders.
A friendly match between the students and teachers were played on the occasion.
Similarly, at KV IIIT-Jhalwa, the school authorities honoured the former deputy commissioner of KVS, Pramod Kumar Tiwari. Tiwari spoke at length on the role of teacher and how he/she plays and important part in grooming the life of a student. Six teachers of the school, including the principal, Vijeyesh Pande, were awarded for their distinguished services.
At Allahabad University, the day was observed at the senate hall, wherein five teachers of the university were honoured by the VC. Speaking on the occasion, university VC, Prof RL Hangloo, said, "Illuminate the light within to be the light of the world."
His message to all students was to instil in themselves a bright hope for tomorrow, concentrating on present day values, ethics and discipline.
Students, he emphasized, are the strong pillars of a growing nation and with righteousness, can do wonders.
Authorities of UP Rajshri Tandon Open University also celebrated Teachers day on their Phaphamau campus. The chief guest on the occasion, Justice Giridhar Malviya, said that the idea of national consciousness should be in the minds of students. He also said that development of distance learning is fast becoming popular.
