AURANGABAD: Members of Maharashtra Underprivileged Teachers' Association (Mupta), Maharashtra Vinanudanit Shikshak-Shikshaketar Sanghatana on Monday staged demonstrations at the Kranti Chowk to press the state government to immediately implement its decision to provide funds/grants for the 1628 schools and 2452 school divisions.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Mupta activists, who earlier staged demonstrations, said that they appreciated that government had decided to extend grants in aid to the schools and the school divisions after a long time.
Mupta leader Sunil Magre said that a number of teachers in such schools were working without salaries for the last 16 years.
"Assessment of many schools had taken by place since 2012-13 for the purpose, still no action has yet been taken and grant sanctioned causing tremendous unrest among these teachers," he said.
"The teachers expect the government to approve and regularize their pay with effect from 2012-13, but they suspected that the government was planning to implement its decision from 2015-16. This would create problems for teachers who have already been facing difficulties in the absence of regular salaries," said Sambhaji Waghmare, another Mupta leader.
"We staged demonstrations on Monday to draw attention of the government toward our demands, especially to implement its decision with effect from 2012-13," said Magre and Waghmare, who led the demonstrations.
