IRB head constable dismissed for 'revolting' against force
AURANGABAD: A head constable with the Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB), Group XIV, was ousted from service for allegedly trying to incite local politicians against the force.
An inquiry conducted by an officer of the rank of assistant commandant found constable Prakash Bhausingh Phule guilty for serious breach of norms laid down in the service rule book and violation of rules mentioned in the police manual.
Phule had previously been suspended from the IRB for breach of discipline and misdemeanour.
A senior SRPF officer told TOI, "His action is being treated as a revolt, and revolt cannot go unpunished in the disciplined force. In such cases, granting exemplary punishment for the misconduct is the only way to defuse the revolt fuelled by unwarranted behaviour and indiscipline."
Phule, a resident of Harsul area, Aurangabad was recruited in the year 2004 at the Jalna based State Reserve Police Force Unit III and was transferred to the newly formed IRB unit at Aurangabad in the year 2009-10. As per the records available at the IRB, Phule was suspended in 2010 for misbehaving with then IRB commandant Mahadev Tambde. Following the incident, he was punished for misbehaviour and indiscipline by stopping his annual increment for two consecutive years.
Considering his alleged excesses, Phule was transferred to the SRPF unit III at Jalna earlier this year, but he remained absconding from duty.
An officer privy to the probe stated that at the time of being dismissed, Phule was facing an inquiry for refusing to go for mandatory training, misbehaving with senior police officers, misbehaving and breaching discipline by directly writing letters to the chief minister and even conducting a press conference without permission from the senior officials.
"Due to a list of acts indiscipline, Phule has been served a number of show cause notices this year but things went out of hand after he approached a local politician and tried convincing him to agitate against the IRB," the officer said.
When contacted, IRB Commandant Nisar Tamboli said, "The man has been dismissed from the services after following the due process. He was given enough opportunities to represent himself before the probe panel, before taking a decision on the findings of the panel."
