Andhra Pradesh: Woman dies after ambulance runs out of oxygen

In an alleged case of medical negligence a patient died due to lack of oxygen in the ambulance. As per the family 35 -year-old Laxmi Devi of Puttaparthy, Anantapur of Andhra Pradesh was suffering from dengue and was undergoing treatment at a local hospital.

When her condition worsened the doctors suggested family to shift her to Bangalore for better treatment. Following the doctors suggestion the family hired an ambulance to take Laxmi to Bangalore.

However, Laxmi died on her way to the hospital. Family alleged that the ambulance did not have sufficient oxygen leading to her death. The family also accused the ambulance staff of negligence.

"We admitted her to a hospital in Puttaparthy and she was doing fine there. After about two days the hospital authorities asked me to shift her to Bangalore for better treatment. They called the ambulance with oxygen as recommended by the doctor. Midway they told us that the cylinder ran out of oxygen. They used another cylinder but that too got over soon," said Laxmi's husband Venkatesh.

LAXMI DIED MIDWAY

Venkatesh added that his wife complained about breathing trouble but the staff did not assist. She was rushed to another private hospital in Bangalore where she was declared brought dead.

Following the incident, the local police rushed to the spot and began investigating the incident. They are waiting for the post-mortem report to ascertain the exact cause of Laxmi's death. Police officer told India Today that after they will file a complaint after they got the post-mortem report.
