PALANPUR: Police have arrested a resident of Nesda village near Bhabhar for trying to incite people to torch a petrol pump owned by a local politician named in the suicide note by head constable Nagji Thakor, who ended his life last week.
The accused Jayanti Thakor, 22, had sent out messages on WhatsApp, urging his community to set ablaze the petrol pump owned by Harilal Thakkar, the former president of Bhabhar municipality.
The police, however, got to know about the messages being circulated and stepped up vigil around the petrol pump located opposite the market yard on Bhabhar-Deodar Road
"After investigating the source of the message, we arrested Thakor from Nesda and booked him under section 66A of the Information Technology Act. He was sent to the Deodar sub-jail," R P Patel, circle inspector at Sihori, told TOI.
Thakkar was among the eight persons named by the constable who committed suicide alleging harassment and threats from bootleggers and local politicians, including the present municipality president Vaikunth Thakkar and vice-president K V Rathod.
They also seized his mobile phone and sent it for forensic examination to ascertain whether he had sent the same message to other groups.
