A 20-year-old woman was attacked by a youth for rejecting his love proposal in Outer District on Saturday. The victim is pursuing graduation from a private university.

The police told that the victim, who lives in Budh Vihar area with her family, was on the way to nearby market with her elder sister when a youth, who was stalking her for the last few months, attacked her with a knife. She started bleeding profusely. The attacker then threatened to kill her if she continued to reject his love proposal. Before the public could react, the attacker managed to flee from the spot on his white scooty that was later identified with the help of CCTV. A PCR call was made by the elder sister. The police reacted swiftly to the call and took the victim to a hospital for treatment and initiated investigation in the case.

“The family members of the victim informed that the attacker was once their tenant but when he started following their younger daughter, they asked him to leave the room. But he continued to stalk their daughter since then,” said a senior police official.

The victim had even filed a case of molestation against the accused few months back. He was then arrested and sent to jail. He has recently come out on bail.

“Taking up the entire matter seriously, the accused was arrested from a market in the locality. The knife used in the crime has been also recovered from his possession,” said a senior police official.

In another incident, a man shot at his estranged wife, injuring her critically, in Naraina area of Southwest Delhi on Saturday. Pratime, 24, sustained a bullet injury in her neck and is undergoing treatment at DDU Hospital.

The police said Pratima, a factory worker, has been living in Naraina village separately from her husband Pawan, 32, following marital discord.

A PCR call was received around 8.38 pm on Saturday about a woman being shot at in Naraina area. Policemen reached the spot and took the injured woman to hospital, a police officer said.

Pawan, who lived at New Modern Shahdara, had visited Pratima on Saturday and after some heated exchange of words, he shot her with a country-made pistol, the officer said.

The locals caught him and handed over to the police. A case under attempt to murder charge has been registered and the accused has been arrested.

The weapon has also been seized, he added.
