Governor K K Paul inaugurates senior women citizen’s home at YWCA

Dehradun: As the world on Sunday afternoon watched in wonder the canonisation of Mother Teresa in the Vatican City, state governor Dr KK Paul here inaugurated a senior women citizen’s home at the Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA). The facility has been named Spreadacres Home and can house 12 residents. The governor, during the inaugural speech, praised YWCA’s attempts at making women independent by imparting vocation training.
“This Sunday is extremely special as Mother Teresa, who dedicated her life to the service of the poor and the homeless, is being given the title of saint. The YWCA campus here should be used to put in similar efforts at empowering women in all spheres of life,” Paul said.
The governor also said that sports activities, medical camps and other such activities could be carried out here to make it a centre of all-round development for women.
Reverend Satish Gyan, Dr Shakuntla David (national president of YWCA), Narendrajit Singh Bindra and Dr Farooq were also present on the occasion. YWCA is one of the largest women’s membership network in the world and YWCA, India has been a forerunner in the field of development of women and girls since its inception in 1896.
