NU to honour nine teachers on Monday

Nagpur: Nagpur University is holding a special event to commemorate Teachers’ Day on Monday. Nine teachers will be presented with an award for their significant contributions. Vice chancellor of Maharashtra National Law University, Vijendra Kumar will be present as chief guest of the event to be held at the NU Convocation hall at 3pm. Jogendra Kawade, member of Maharashtra Legislative Council, will be the guest of honour.
Vice chancellor Siddharthavinayaka Kane and pro-vice chancellor Pramod Yeole will share the dais.
Last year, Kane changed the rules under his administration. Now, a panel invites applications and selects candidates on merit. “Even if a person has not applied, I can recommend him/her,” said Kane in a press conference held on Saturday. He was accompanied by Yeole and others. From next year, the university will also give cash prizes to the winners. Different categories of the awards are — best principal, best teacher, best researcher, best writer, best teacher in the social work faculty and special award for the handicapped.
NU awardees:
* Best Principal- Udaykumar Waghe, Yashwantrao Chawhan College of Engineering
* Best Teachers — Rajendra Kakde from NU Pharmaceutical Department, Sunilkumar Navin from Nabira College, Katol, and Chandrahaas Handa from KDK College of Engineering
* Special Award for Handicapped — Shubhangi Patil, Priyadarshini College of Education
* Best Researcher — RJ Andrew, Hislop College and Sanjay Dhoble from NU Physics Department
* Best Writer — Arvind Shende, Kamla Nehru College
* Best teacher in the social work faculty — Ashok Kamble, Kamla Nehru College
