Probe ordered into absence of investigation of teen shooter’s death
Aligarh: A day after a teenaged competitive shooter died after accidentally shooting himself while cleaning his father’s revolver at his house here, the city senior superintendent of police (SSP) Love Kumar has ordered an investigation into why the police did not file a case in the matter or send the body for post mortem.
Lokesh Singh (17) was found by his mother and sisters in a pool of blood on the terrace of his house after accidentally shooting himself in the abdomen, according to his family.
They then took him to hospital but he died during treatment.
Following this, the body was cremated by the family without permitting the police to conduct a post mortem analysis.
Since he died a unnatural death, it called for a post mortem but the two hospitals that treated him said it was not their responsibility to send a memorandum to the police about his death. Ahtesham Ahmad, casualty medical officer of JNM Hospital said, “We operated on him but referred him to another hospital as we did not have ventilators.”
Dr Sanjay Bhargava from Varun Trauma Centre said, “We checked him in the ambulance. He was brought dead. Since we did not admit him, there was no question of sending a memo to the police.”
“I have ordered the station officer to inquire from the hospital as to why the police were not informed about the death. The whole matter will be looked into,” said Aligarh SSP Love Kumar.
Station officer of Kwarsi, Vinod Kumar, said, “The family did not give any complaint regarding the death of their son. The body was not sent for post mortem. We will inquire from the hospitals regarding their inability to send us a memo.”
