THE PERAK government has issued an immediate directive for monitoring efforts and checks to be stepped up at the Sultan Azlan Shah Airport here in view of the rising number of Zika virus cases in neighbouring Singapore.

Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir said the state government is concerned about the possibility the virus could spread locally since the airport, with direct flights from Singapore, is a major gateway for Singaporean tourists.
