Shettar suggest Siddaramaiah hold discussion with Goa CM on Mahadayi issue

Hubballi Sep 3 (UNI) Leader of Opposition in Karnataka AssemblyJagadish Shettar today suggested Chief MinisterSiddaramaiah to hold a discussion with Goa Chief MinisterLaxmikant Parsekar as directed by Mahadayi Tribunal regarding theshare of water from the river. Addressing mediapersons here, he said that mere writing letter tothe Goa Chief Minister will not serve any purpose. Mr Siddarmaiah shouldhold telephonic talk with him and get his appointment to meet himto find an amicable solution to Kalasa-Banbduri Nala diversionproject of Karnataka. He said that 'Goa Government is not an enemy to Karnataka'. Theyare amenable for discussion and the Chief Minister of Goa hasalready declared he was ready for discussion. He said that it was better if the Tribunal Chairman justice J M Panchal asked both the states to find an amicable settlementthrough bilateral talks before issuing any interim order. He also said that in view of the suggestion from the Tribunal,an opportunity has been provided to Karnataka for solving thecontentious issue and Chief Minister of Karnataka should make thebest use of it. Regarding the demand for intervention by Prime Minister onthis issue, he said that there is no scope for the Prime Minister to intervene. Since the Tribunal has given an opportunity to have
bilateral discussions let both the Chief Ministers hold talks, he added. Mr Shettar alleged that the Congress led Government has beenexhibiting non cooperation about the comprehensive development ofHubballi and Dharwad cities. He said that already a package for solid waste management at acost of Rs.60 crore has been prepared and six other packages havebeen submitted to the Government. But the Urban DevelopmentDepartment has so far not given its assent and the packages havebeen kept in cold storage. The Opposition leader also said that he had brought thematter to the notice of the Urban Development Minister Roshan Beigbut to no avail. It was also discussed with the then UrbanDevelopment Minister Vinyakuma Sorke. He also alleged discrimination by the State Government towardsall these developmental projects as a result of which the twincities of Hubballi and Dharwad still suffer from getting basicamenities.UNI XC HVB CS 1112
