Chandigarh: A day after two youths carjacked a Mercedes from Parampreet Kaur Chadha, 50, in Sector 15, her husband Sukhdev Singh Chadha on Friday said the consequences could have been dire if he had left his three-and-a-half-year-old son Bhavnait in the car with his mother.
Sukhdev Singh told TOI, "I wanted to leave my son along with his mother, but Bhavnait insisted to accompany me till a nearby Verka booth to fetch a packet of paneer.
When I returned along with Bhavnait, the car was missing and subsequently, I heard shouts. I thank the almighty that both my child and wife are safe. My wife told me that the face of the second accused wearing a cap matched with that of one of notorious robbers whose picture was shown to her by crime branch sleuths."
Parampreet Kaur, who had jumped from the car, received injuries on her back, right hand, forehead and feet. She was discharged from the hospital in late night hours of Thursday. Kaur was not able to speak due to acute pain. Relatives of the victim said another robber, who was on the rear seat, had gagged the mouth of the woman. Meanwhile, a team of crime branch and local police reconstructed the crime scene and reviewed CCTV footage. Sources said all similar carjacking cases, in which occupants of four-wheelers, were driven along for a short distance before being thrown out on the road, were being reviewed. A case was registered at Sector 11 police station.
