New Delhi, September 2

The HRD Ministry is considering reducing the area required to set up a Kendriya Vidyalaya. At present, the requirement of land for a KV school is 8 acres in an urban area, 4 acres in a metro city and 10 acres in a rural area. These schools primarily cater to children of transferred Central Government employees.

A suggestion to relax the land requirement norms has been put up and data is being collected to enable a decision based on present-day requirements.

“The decision to reduce the land requirement for KV schools is under consideration. HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar is part of the discussions on the issue. The proposal was put up as it is becoming difficult to get land,” an official source said. Several KVs had been held up due to difficulty in getting land for them, he added.

There are 1,137 Kendriya Vidyalayas with over 12 lakh students across India. At least 55,000 teachers are employed at these schools.

Meanshile, KV students have made and sent over 1.18 lakh greeting cards to soldiers posted at the border.
