Exploring a sensitive subject

Director P C Shekar has joined hands with actor Bhamaa for a project that traces the life of a visually-impaired girl. The director says he couldn’t think of anyone  better person to do justice to the character.

“I’ve worked with Bhamaa in some of my earlier projects and found that she adapts quickly to roles that she is given,” says Shekar. He feels that Bhamaa has the potential to transform a simple and straight character into something extraordinary.

“She understands exactly what is expected of her and has the ability to emote in a unique way. It is a romantic story narrated in a very different way,” he adds. To help her grasp her role better, Bhamaa has been handed over videos of the visually-impaired and will be spending a few days in a school for the visually impaired to understand how they live, work and adapt to their surroundings.

“We are yet to choose the other characters for the film. We zeroed in on Bhamaa because she requires time to work on her role and perfect the act,” says Shekar. Shekar says the actor was thrilled when she was offered the role because it gave her the chance to work on something very different.

“Bhamaa turned down a few offers after she accepted to work in my film because she was impressed with the script and wanted to devote a lot of time to it. This is also one of the reasons why I find it easy to work with her; she is a thorough professional and doesn’t compromise on quality,” adds Shekar.
