KANGRA, SEPTEMBER 1
Bikram Thakur, BJP MLA, Jaswan–Pragpur constituency, today criticised the Central team for inspecting the site proposed for Central University at Jadrangal when the site at Dehra has already been selected.
He said the Congress government was in power for the last four years, but it had failed to provide suitable land for construction of the central university.
Thakur said the state government had offered about 7,000 kanals of land at Dehra and transferred it in the name of Central University through a Cabinet decision.
Based on the report submitted on April 23, 2010 by the site selection committee appointed by the Central Government, it was decided that there will be two campuses of this university. One will be at Dehra ‘Beas campus’ accommodating 70 per cent of the infrastructure as the main campus and the second will be ‘Dhauldhar campus’ at Dharamsala which will have 30 per cent of the academic activities. The state government processed the case for transfer of land and the NDA Government at the Centre accorded forest clearance too.
He asked when the site was selected and approved by the site selection committee then why a fresh committee arrived today in the district. It said it was an attempt to deprive Kangra of the the Central university.
