IFDANew York – Forecasting experts delivered the scoop on the top seasonal influencers and color trends for 2017 last week at the NY Now show.

Hosted by the International Furnishings & Design Association’s New York chapter, “Color: What’s Coming in 2017”featured presentations from Trend House Inc.’s Nicki Gondell as well as entrepreneur and forecasting expert Stacy Garcia.

Trend House identified five key trends for spring/summer:

  • Suburban with a European sensibility, reflecting the casual elegance of European towns where homes are passed from generation to generation.
  • Caribbean with a decidedly Cuban accent. Look for pineapple textures to emerge here.
  • Coastal with a Pacific Northwestern bent. This vide is calm, cool, sandy and rocky.
  • Mineral, exploring the intersection of nature and science. Covers the gamut from slick liquid metallic to powdery diamond dust.
  • Color Up, with optimistic pops of color (though a lot less hot than you might expect) and bold, energetic graphics.

Garcia addressed leading color trends for fall 2017, noting she sees a blurring of the seasons.

“We’re looking for evolution in trends, not revolution,” she added.

Her hot picks:

  • Twilight: Blues growing richer, pairing with a new bronze-influenced gold.
  • Nature’s Neutrals: Warmer grays, mushroom tones and nutty browns with a touch of Nordic influence.
  • Soul Revival: The ‘70s return, with shades of orange/tangerine, browns, golds and khaki green.
  • Tales of the Forest: Greens and blues anchored with mossy or mushroom neutrals. Influenced by the Japanese trend of shinrin yoku, or Forest Bathing.
  • Uninhibited Pastels: The pastels are more muted than sweet. Think grays kissed by lavender or blue. They play against charcoal and eggplant.
