Saurashtra receives 70% average annual rainfall till now

RAJKOT: The light to moderate rains continued to occur in parts of Saurashtra and Kutch region since last one week.
According to district flood control room official, Surendranagar district good rainfall in last 24 hours. In Surendranagar, Chuda received 42 mm, Lakhtar received 35 mm and Limdi received 25 mm rainfall.
According to Gujarat State Disaster Management Authority (GSDMA), Saurashtra region has so far received 70 percent of its average annual rainfall till now.
In fact, Jamnagar received 102 % of its average annual rainfall.
However, Surendranagar district is still rain deficient as it has only received 50 percent of its average annual rainfall.
According to Water Resources department officials, there are only 30 percent water available in dams of Saurashtra. The sowing completed in 91 percent area in the state.
In Saurashtra, sowing completed in 98 percent of the area. According to agriculture department officials, cotton sown in 17.37 lakh hectare area while groundnut sown in 13.49 lakh hectare area in Saurashtra region.
