District Educational Officer M. Venkata Krishna Reddy has suspended the English teacher of Chintanippula Agraharam ZP High School, K. George Sampat Kumar, on a charge of harassing girl students from senior classes. Deputy DEO K. Renuka conducted an inquiry based on a complaint, and submitted a detailed report on August 18. Of the 237 students in the school, 123 are girls. Mr. Sampat Kumar was accused of targeting students of Classes 9 and 10. He allegedly chose 10 students and had been misbehaving with them for several months.

The incident came to light when one girl mustered courage and told her parents about the teacher’s misdeeds on August 6. The parents and their relatives thrashed the teacher, but did not inform the school authorities fearing that villagers would not send their girl children to the school. But later, headmaster G.S.N. Murty came to know about the incident and held a meeting with the village elders and other teachers. The elders summoned Mr. Kumar’s wife and children and informed them of his activities.
