An unidentified person duped a 57-year-old woman, S. Meenakshi of Nehru Nagar, of 11 sovereigns of gold here on Tuesday. The police said that the man, claiming himself to be a policeman, cautioned the woman returning from temple that many anti-social elements were on the prowl and advised her to keep her gold chain secure. On the pretext of covering the gold chain in a piece of paper, he stealthily took the chain and escaped. The woman realised that she was cheated on reaching home. The Subramaniapuram police are investigating.
