Bird lover in trauma as thief steals 17 exotic pigeons

The miscreant broke into the terrace and took away pigeons after cutting the safety net.

A 22 years old bird lover is traumatized after his building terrace was broken into, not for gold and valuables but for his exotic pet pigeons worth Rs 2.5 Lakhs. The unidentified theft cut the safety nets and stole the pigeons from the terrace.

Vaibhav Mhatre,22 a resident of Kongaon was taken aback when he could not hear the cries of his pigeons housed at their terrace as he rushed in the morning to feed them their daily food of grains as he found that his 17 different types of pigeons including all one year old Hungarian house pigeons, Tur pigeons, Trumpeters, Lahore pigeons and Pashtun pigeons worth Rs 2.5 Lakhs were stolen.

"The unidentified miscreant(s) knew about the pigeons and the locations as they broke into the terrace by cutting safety nets and managed to decamp with the birds",said a Kongaon police official.

"The youth is in trauma after his pet piegons of different varieties were stolen as we will check the CCTV camera footage of the locality to establish the identity of the miscreant", said the official.

"We have registered the case under section 457(house breaking by night) and 380(theft) of the Indian Penal Code against unknown person and we are investigating further", said Pawan Nandre, Investigation Officer, Kongaon police station.
