Chandigarh Civic body likely to install green pavers to create parking spaces for vehicles

Though, a part of the green cover would be converted into a parking place for the vehicles, but to ensure that the area remains green, the civic body had put forth the proposal of installing grass pavers.

August 30 In a bid to ensure that green spaces are not reduced if pavers are installed to create parking spaces for vehicles near the neighbourhood parks, the civic body is likely to install grass pavers in two sectors.

The grass pavers were recently installed in Sector 28 on a pilot basis recently on the suggestion mooted by the engineering wing. The agenda of installing green pavers would come up before the House meeting scheduled to be held Wednesday.

As per the agenda, the grass pavers may be installed in Sector 38, which houses the the Mayor’s ward and in Dadumajra, and will cost around Rs 62 lakh and Rs 55 lakh respectively. “The roads are narrow in Dadunajra Colony and people park their vehicles in front of their houses. However, after installing grass pavers the residents can park their vehicles here,” stated the proposal. An inspection was also carried out by the Sub-Divisional engineer concerned following which this report was prepared.

“ The grass pavers can take the weight of a truck and beautifies the area as well. So rather than having usual paver blocks, which will reduce the space, it is better to have grass pavers.” According to the policy drafted, paver blocks would be allowed to be installed on the V3 road.

Paver blocks and PCC tiles are to be fixed on V-4, V-5 and V-6 roads. In shopping and market areas, coloured pattern design blocks would be installed for beautification. In rehabilitation colonies and villages, neighbourhod parks where the area is up to 500 square yards, the policy suggests that only green paver blocks would be provided to facilitate parking.

A carcass incinerator centre is likely to come up in sector 25 near the garbage processing plant. Here the dead animals would be burnt. The agenda would come up before the house meeting Wednesday.
