The traffic on the Hindustan-Tibet highway came to a halt late last night following a massive landslide triggered by heavy rain. The landslide occurred at Chaura, 170 km from here as a huge boulder came down and covered about 150 feet of the road.
National Highway engineers deployed machinery and manpower and cleared the road after more than 12 hours this afternoon. Hundreds of vehicles were stranded on either side of the road and commodities like milk, bread, vegetable and fruits and newspaper did not reach Kinnaur and Kaza.
Fortunately, there were no vehicles parked on the spot or passing through the stretch. DC, Kinnaur, NK Lath said there was a blockade due to landslide last night but the same had been removed and the normal traffic had been restored.
